New Legislation Affects Municipal Purchasing
Legislation affecting the purchase of materials and supplies signed by Gov. John Bel Edwards on May 31 will take effect on August 1, 2022. Of interest to community police departments, SB 78 (Act 179) by Senator Mike Reese, amends R.S. 38:2212.1 (A)(2)(a) to allow for the purchase of a new or used vehicle for conversion into a law enforcement vehicle at a cost of up to $40,000 without need to advertise and bid (formerly the limit was $20,000). Also passed was HB 221 (Act 204) by Representative Tanner McGee, which raises the bid threshold for materials and supplies to $60,000.00 (formerly $30,000) and ups the quote threshold to $30,000 (formerly $10,000).
